Germany’s Wood Construction Industry. Key findings from the 2025 sector report
• More than 12,000 firms are active, most of them small with an average of six employees. Companies with 20 or more employees show the strongest growth.
• Financial results improved in 2023. Cashflow, liquidity, and profitability all increased. Investment prioritized digital planning and prefabrication.
• Key obstacles include bureaucracy, weak client planning, and labour shortages. These factors continue to slow project delivery.
• Timber construction is gaining market share in both residential and non-residential segments.
• Collaboration across firms is rising, especially through bidder groups and joint project teams.
• Apprenticeship numbers remain high at more than 8,600, with a growing share of women entering the field.
